Tried the new McDonald’s chicken sandwich

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

I was out on the road and it was lunch time; I was hungry so I pulled into a McDonald’s restaurant.  I saw that they have a new country-fried chicken sandwich at a reasonable price, so I decided to order it.  I ordered it as a value meal, with fries and a drink.  I was surprised when I got it that the were no condiments on the sandwich at all, just a hunk of fried chicken and a slice of pickle on a bun.

There were no packets of mayonnaise “out” for the customers to grab a packet, and there were no salt packets out, either.  No salt or pepper shakers on the tables, either.  That was a little bit annoying because I had to get back in line to ask for mayo and salt!  The sandwich was “ok” but nothing special.  I could see that they were trying to compete with the chik-filet chicken sandwich, and I have to admit that it seemed to be just about the same in taste, although I think the piece of chicken was smaller.

Going to eat out tonight

Friday, September 5th, 2008

A group of my friends and I are going out to eat dinner at the Outback Steakhouse tonight.  I really enjoy going out to eat a good steak now and then.  I don’t eat steak at home, it is too expensive and I really can’t seem to cook it just the way I like it.  So when I eat out, I like to order steak - if it comes out too well done I can send it back and get a new one!  I can’t send it back at home!

But also I really enjoy the pork chops at the Outback, if I ask them to hold the seasonings.  I don’t know why they seem to have to season everything so spicy!  I like my food NEKKED!  Their pork chops are thick and juicy and full of good flavor, so every now and then I’ll order pork chops there.  I don’t know why I can’t seem to buy pork chops that flavorful from the store!  I never have good luck with them at home, either!

I’ll have to flip a coin tonight to see what I’m going to order tonight!

Junk gifts

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

I never quite know what to do or say when someone gives you a gift that is totally worthless junk.  For example, my sister-in-law gave me her “perfectly good, hardly ever used” Roomba robot vacuum cleaner.  I was thrilled at first, took it home and cleaned it all out, plugged it in to charge it.  I already had one, and was thrilled to have another!  Well, that Roomba never charged - the battery was completely dead and non-rechargeable.  Well, that was OK, I had a spare battery.  I put the spare battery in the “new” Roomba and the “new” Roomba just sat there and squawked at me.  Wouldn’t even budge.  Completely worthless.  So now I wonder what to say if my sister-in-law ever asks me how I like the Roomba she gave me.  Should I smile and say I love it?  Or should I be honest and tell her it was broken and I never got the chance to use it.  I have to wonder if she KNEW it was broken and was just trying to get rid of it!

Solar energy

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

I was reading an article on the Reuters website earlier today; a friend sent me the link and told me to read it. The article was talking about how solar energy will be cost competitive with fossil fuels by the year 2013. Well, if that is true, I think that the US government should just stop even talking about drilling for oil off the coast of Florida and in Alaska. I understand that even getting that oil drilled and refined will take at least five to ten years to reach the gas pumps, so what’s the point of spoiling the environment when we will have perfectly good alternative fuels ready by then? Now I understand that solar energy will not be able to run everything that needs gasoline, but there ARE other sources of fuel out there that could be used to replace fossil fuels that will be ready to be on the market by then and will be cost completive too.

June 1st already!

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

My word, I can’t believe it is the first of June already! I had to work today, so I’m on the tired side. Had a big crowed at the hotel this weekend with a lot of requests, questions, errands, so I’m sure glad that the day is over! I really don’t like working weekends because we are so very busy, but that is when I get the best tips, so it is a mixed bag there. I’m glad there is a deli on the way home so I could just duck into the deli and grab up a decent supper to bring home to eat. I was way too tired to deal with fixing anything, even a microwave TV dinner! Living in the city is great that way; it is so easy to duck into a deli on the way home and grab a decent meal.

I’m doing my part

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

I’ve been hearing and reading a lot about the energy crisis, and the global warming crisis.  I just want to say that I’m doing my part!  I don’t even OWN a car (which is a good thing because I couldn’t afford to put gas in it!) because I live near the public transportation that I need to get back and forth to work and to shopping.  I have recently bought some of the CFL bulbs to replace my regular light bulbs when they burn out.  I turn down the heat/turn up the air conditioning as much as I can bear it, and my landlord put in a programmable thermostat so that the heat/cool will change to a lower energy consumption setting when I’m away at work.

So, I’m doing MY part; I hope you are doing YOUR!

Just got back from DisneyWorld

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

A few of my friends and I just got back from a vacation at DisneyWorld.  We flew down and took a shuttle from the airport to the condo that we were renting, and then used the condo’s courtesy shuttle to go from the condo to DisneyWorld and back again.  There were lots of restaurants within walking distance of the condo so we never had to rent a car.

What a great trip that was!  I loved walking around and people watching more than anything else; that is something that I seem to enjoy doing a lot.

I think that the Haunted Mansion was my favorite attraction at the Magic Kingdom.  And at Epcot Center I really liked the boat ride through “The Land” where you ride a boat through some greenhouses and listen to them talk about new ways to grow food.  I thought that was very interesting!  And at MGM I think my favorite attraction was the Backstage tour.  But I really enjoyed watching the parades, and all of the streetside performances.  So much fun!  I would LOVE to live down there and work at DisneyWorld!  Maybe I’ll apply for a job there and IF I get it then I’d move.
